Frequently asked questions

Where does therapy take place?

Therapy can be conducted at my clinic in Grey Lynn or in your home/ child’s school (travel charges apply).

Some assessments and therapies can be conducted online, so if you live outside of Auckland, I may still be able to support you.

What is included in an individual session price?

Session prices include preparation of materials and assessments to ensure the session runs smoothly, delivery of the session including discussion and modelling of activities to key family members and all follow up clinical administration resulting from the session.

I will also provide you with materials for carry-over of activities at home, between sessions (either via email for you to print off or, if you do not have a printer, I can print these for you).

I also have an email / phone call policy that entitles you to one phone call (up to 15 minutes) or 2 emails between sessions with any questions you may have about carrying over targets set at home.

What are your travel charges?

$1.50 per km from Grey Lynn office to requested place of therapy.

What are your cancellation fees?

  • 50% standard cancellation fee for all therapy sessions cancelled within 24 hours the planned session.
  • 100% charge for sessions cancelled within 4 hours of the planned session and missed therapy sessions where no notice has been given.

Why do you charge a 50% cancellation fee for appointments cancelled within 24 hours?

Therapy planning takes place prior to your session. Cancellations that occur within a relatively short time frame also make it less likely that another client can be booked into your scheduled session time.

Additionally, when you have an ongoing block of therapy, booking someone else into this regularly scheduled time means they may then have an expectation I can see them at this time moving forward. In order that you do not lose your regular session time, it is often not a good idea to offer your regular session time to another client.

What does assessment and therapy look like?

Assessment and therapy takes many forms, and it is difficult to tell you exactly what that will look like until we meet you and/ or your child. What works for one person may not work for another.

As a general rule, most assessment will be a combination of the following:

  • Observations;
  • Discussion with key family members/ carers/ school staff;
  • Review of other professional documents and assessments;
  • Informal assessment;
  • Formal assessment tasks.

The form of assessment and therapy also depends on the presentation of a communication disorder, the type of communication disorder and the goals of the client and family.

Therapy will be tailored to the needs and presentation of an individual based on assessment results.

As a general rule, I try to keep things relaxed and fun – so, sessions should feel engaging and you shouldn’t feel anxious about coming to an over-formal healthcare/ medical setting.

How do I pay?

Assessment:

In order to confirm your assessment session, 50% of the assessment fee is payable prior to assessment session.

The remainder will be charged once the session is completed, with a maximum 1 week payment term.

Once full payment is received your assessment report will be released to you and future plans discussed/ recommended.

Sessions:

  • Charged on a session-by-session basis after completion of each session. All invoices have a 1 week payment term.
